Ashcroft Lies, Too

Here's one so straightforward and simple that even a blinkered idiot like Lying Liar Bill O'Reilly could grasp it:

John Ashcroft claims that he has never used the Patriot Act's "Section 215," the part that allows the FBI to sift through your library records, examining what you read (a Nazi-like provision that should chill the blood of any true American).

Here's the direct quote: "The number of time Section 215 has been used to date is zero," Ashcroft wrote in a memo to FBI Director Robert Mueller.

Not a paraphrasing by some hack journalist. Not a summary spun by some PR-meister. Not a paraphase cobbled together from independent quotes. It's Ashcroft's direct claim, written in his own hand, presented in context.

And it's a bald-faced, steaming pile of bullshit. It's a lie, and it's a lie that should cost Lying Liar Ashcroft his job.

Here's an article from USA Today back in June that documents FBI visits to libraries all over the country:
The University of Illinois conducted a survey of 1,020 public libraries in January and February and found that 85 libraries had been asked by federal or local law enforcement officers for information about patrons related to Sept. 11.

Please do read the rest of the article, which interviews librarians who were interrorgated and even quotes FBI officials defending the practice. I dare anyone to show me how this is not a patent, obvious, contrived, deliberate lie.

We're supposed to wait patiently for another 14 months before we can throw these lying sons of bitches out of office?? How many more lies will they try to fool us with between now and then, and how many more disastrous consequences will we have to deal with? How many more soldiers will be dead or maimed by then, do you think?

We need a recall or an impeachment, and we need it now.
