Read up on some Jungian psychology. This is called Projection of the Shadow [see: http://www.kheper.net/topics/psychology/projection_of_the_shadow.html ] it is a reflection not of not merely politics. It is a reflection of how f'd up the entire human race is.
by the way, Projection of the Shadow is a long established right wing practice. It was elevated into an art form by Karl Rove. Every accusation the Repugs cast on the hapless Demos can be traced back to Repug policy and action. My big question is: are they even conscious of this activity? I would guess, most Repugs are not since it takes a great degree of self-awareness to recognize this dysfunctional human trait.
