Today's New York Times reports that -- wait, you might want to sit down -- the Justice Department apparently lied to Congress and the American People.
I know.
But seriously, this is some deep doo-doo. The NYT says Alberto Gonzales issued secret legal opinions on torture that directly contradicted what he and the rest of the administration told the public and Congress.
Anybody who wants to know why I've basically given up on America recovering from this nightmare might want to consider the alarming number of times phrases similar to "secret legal opinions" have popped up in the last six years compared to oh, let's say the previous 224 years.
